Avengers Half Marathon

So on Sunday we woke up to run the Avengers Half Marathon.

Avengers Half Marathon

Kristen had wanted to be Star-Lord from Guardians of the Galaxy. After she said that I mentioned it would be fun to dress as Baby Groot and then we all decided to run as Guardians of the Galaxy.

Avengers Half Marathon

As soon as I got the Baby Groot idea I knew I had to follow through with it. It wasn’t the easiest costume to run in, but everyone got a kick out of it.

We started in Corral B again, but not as many people in the earlier corrals dressed up for the half like the 10K.

Avengers Half Marathon

We found Black Widow in Disney California Adventure.

Avengers Half Marathon

At the entrance we found Hawkeye. The lines weren’t really long, but long enough.

Avengers Half Marathon

We crossed the street and ran through Disneyland. This time we went left instead of right.

We found Captain America next.

Avengers Half Marathon

I almost took out a cast member after this picture. The lines were getting so long, but we knew the characters were only going to be in the parks, which was the beginning of the race.

Avengers Half Marathon

Finally we found Thor. His line was the longest (20ish minutes). We decided to wait because he was the only one from the 10K we didn’t get a picture with.

After we finally got our picture with Thor we had already been an hour into the race!

Less character opportunities = longer lines.

Avengers Half Marathon

After the parks we were out on the streets of Anaheim.

Avengers Half Marathon

Cheryl, Kristen and Spenser had been training with a walk/run method, so we kept to their pace.

Avengers Half Marathon

At one point we were running on a very narrow, slightly dirt path behind houses.

Avengers Half Marathon

Then we ran under an overpass. The “road” was so small people were running up on the dirt.

Avengers Half Marathon

A majority of the middle of the race was along a very narrow path next to a dried up riverbed or some sort of aqueduct? Not sure what it was but the drop-off was dangerous and under the bridges were a lot of tents of homeless people. Really not the best path for a race course.

Avengers Half Marathon

We went that way because we had to get to Angels Stadium without using the highway or closing down many streets.

The stadium was cool. There were marching bands rotating out throughout the day to cheer us on.

Avengers Half Marathon

The coolest part was outside the stadium. There were hundreds of people in old military outfits cheering us on.

Avengers Half Marathon

They even had a sock-hop dance area! It was so cool! I loved all the vintage uniforms and styles.

Avengers Half Marathon

Then we were back on the highways.

Avengers Half Marathon

We had really great weather.

Avengers Half Marathon

We turned a corner and we were back on the opposite side of the highway we had used to leave Disneyland earlier.

Avengers Half Marathon

Then we were going back into Disneyland!

Avengers Half Marathon

Avengers Half Marathon

We ran through the backlot of California Adventure and then we were done!

Avengers Half Marathon

We got our half marathon, gauntlet challenge and coast to coast medals at the end!

Avengers Half Marathon

It was the first half marathon I have ever run without headphones or music. I enjoyed hearing the fans cheer us on and everyone got a kick out of my costume. It was fun to hear people yell “GROOT” or “OMG It’s Baby Groot”

Avengers Half Marathon

After the race we were even feature on the runDisney Twitter page AND I was on the Marvel website in their race review!!

It was a fun race, but the course could use some work. I wasn’t a fan of the narrow paths or treacherous drops along the course, but all-in-all a great day!
